PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dave Handerson (ranked 88 p4p, 79 weight class) and Ghost Chai (ranked 9 p4p, 8 weight class). Handerson comes to the cage accompanied by America - A Horse With No Name. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dave Handerson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 13 - 0, fighting out of London, Ghost Chai!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Felipe Paraventi and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Handerson fails to land the takedown.
Chai replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Handerson blocks it well.

Handerson clinches.
Handerson tries to work over Chai's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Chai blocks a body shot from Handerson.

Handerson is working for takedown but Chai is calmly controlling the position for now.
Chai misses with a punch on the inside.
Handerson has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Chai after a bit of a struggle.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dave Handerson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Handerson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Chai swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Handerson shoots in for a takedown but Chai shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Handerson wants to clinch but Chai slips to the side
and Chai counters with a straight right hand.

It looks like Dave Handerson has been cut.
Chai looks to score with a jab to the body but Handerson is just out of range.

Handerson shoots for a takedown but Chai saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Handerson misses with the head strike.

Chai's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Handerson darts in trying to clinch
and Chai counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

Handerson closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Chai's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Handerson keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Chai's head.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Handerson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Handerson dives in and grabs Chai's left leg, looking for a takedown. Chai pushes down on Handerson's head and hops out.

Chai fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Handerson.

Handerson closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Chai's guard.

Handerson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Ghost Chai seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Handerson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Handerson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Chai as he avoids it easily.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Chai! But no joy.

Handerson closes the distance and clinches up with Chai, looking for a takedown. Handerson pushes Chai against the cage but Chai circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Chai blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Handerson goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Chai prevents a takedown attempt there.
Chai lands with a left to the head.
Still in the clinch, Chai scores with a nice short uppercut.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Handerson creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Chai.
I was talking to Handerson's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Dave Handerson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

and Chai counters with a powerful cross that connects right on the chin and the lights go out! A massive one punch knock out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:32 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Ghost Chai!

During a confident post fight interview, Ghost Chai thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
