Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Aleksandr Pushkin (ranked 20 p4p, 57 weight class) and Gord Ryan (ranked 3 p4p, 9 weight class). Ryan has chosen Rusty Cage as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 11 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aleksandr Pushkin! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 22 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gord Ryan! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pushkin misses with a takedown attempt and Ryan counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Pushkin closes the distance and clinches up with Ryan, looking for a takedown. Pushkin pushes Ryan against the cage but Ryan circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Ryan is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Pushkin with a body shot. Pushkin shoots and misses and Ryan counters with a left to the body. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Aleksandr Pushkin. That's going to take a lot out of him. Pushkin tries to clinch up but Ryan circles away and keeps his distance. A countering left hand to the body from Ryan misses. Ryan misses with a looping left. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pushkin shoots for a double leg takedown but Ryan sprawls well. He's pushed Pushkin's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Pushkin tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ryan paws at him with a jab and circles away. Ryan let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ryan waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Pushkin. As Ryan tries to get set, Pushkin tries to push him back and clinch up but Ryan manages to avoid the attempt. Ryan lands a slapping body shot.
Pushkin closes the distance looking to clinch and Ryan counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Pushkin dives in and grabs Ryan's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ryan pushes down on Pushkin's head and hops out. A countering left hand to the body from Ryan misses. Pushkin has his takedown stuffed and Ryan counters with a left to the body.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ryan swings for the body but Pushkin moves out of range.
Pushkin fails with a takedown attempt. Pushkin looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Ryan throws a sloppy body shot
and Pushkin counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pushkin trying to control the position from guard on top but Ryan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Ryan has his hands on Pushkin's head, controlling the position. Pushkin is pushing down on Ryan's leg trying to pass to half guard. Ryan is fighting to maintain full guard but Pushkin has managed to sneak the leg through. Pushkin is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Pushkin wants to pass to mount but Ryan is defending the position. Ryan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pushkin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Pushkin is figuring out what he wants to do next.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Pushkin trying to pass the guard but Ryan defending well. Pushkin stalling. Pushkin trying to control from half guard but Ryan is working away. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Pushkin is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Pushkin is working for a submission of some sort.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Gord Ryan dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Pushkin shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Pushkin changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ryan tries to avoid it but Pushkin manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ryan to the ground. Ryan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Ryan! But no joy. Pushkin scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Pushkin stalling. Pushkin works his way into side control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pushkin is looking to take a break and control but Ryan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pushkin moves into full mount! Ryan prevents Pushkin from taking his back. Pushkin trying to control but he's not successful this time. Pushkin is working for a guillotine from mount but Ryan frees his head quite easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Pushkin content just to control the position here. Pushkin is looking to take Ryan's back but instead Ryan gets back to half guard. Nice work. Pushkin trying to control the action but Ryan is working from the bottom. Pushkin frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Ryan defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Pushkin.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pushkin lands a nice shot to the head. Pushkin can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Ryan is looking to escape. Pushkin goes for an armbar but Ryan turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Ryan. Ryan sitting in guard here, content to control. Pushkin is looking for a triangle but Ryan pushes his legs off easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Ryan with a flurry of punches that miss. Pushkin working a defensive guard here.

Pushkin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ryan is one step ahead there. Pushkin is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ryan defends well. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Aleksandr Pushkin dominated that second round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. Pushkin with a lazy takedown attempt and Ryan counters with a crisp right hand that drops Pushkin! Ryan lets Pushkin back up to his feet, looking for a finish!
Pushkin is rocked! Pushkin misses with a takedown attempt and Ryan rattles Pushkin with a well-timed uppercut counter. - Pushkin tries to back away and recover but his hands are down low and he gets tagged again, sending him stumbling down to the canvas. Ryan dives in after him and quickly finishes the job with a trio of brutal punches, leaving Pushkin stiff and motionless on the mat!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:15 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Gord Ryan! Gord Ryan is the new middleweight champion! During a confident post fight interview, Gord Ryan thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
