Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Gord Ryan (ranked 19 p4p, 36 weight class) and Pavel Kostov (ranked 3 p4p, 6 weight class). Ryan comes into the arena with Rusty Cage blaring out of the sound system. Kostov has chosen Гио Пика - Буйно Голова as his entrance music. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 23 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gord Ryan! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 27 - 16 - 4, fighting out of St Petersburg, Pavel Kostov! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Percy O'Donnell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight. Kostov scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Ryan on the wrong end of a nice jab. Ryan moves away from the strike by Kostov. Ryan checks a leg kick. Kostov fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Ryan is out of range. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ryan takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Kostov takes a body punch but keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ryan keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Kostov. Ryan appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body. Kostov misses with a lunging right hand
letting Ryan counter with a right hand. Kostov throws a leg kick and Ryan counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Ryan swings widly with a right hand
and Ryan takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. A good leg kick by Kostov. That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Ryan crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Kostov - the referee stops the clock and Ryan gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Kostov. Ryan manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ryan throws a right hand that misses
and Kostov counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Kostov loads up on a big right hand but Ryan slips the punch. An attempted straight right counter from Ryan misses the target. Ryan throws an off balance right hand
and Kostov counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Kostov scores with a slapping inside leg kick. A jab from Kostov misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kostov throws a body kick that misses and Ryan counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Kostov scores with a body shot.
Ryan swings away with a body shot that misses
and Kostov counters with a thumping low kick. Ryan rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Kostov counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Ryan throws a poor cross that misses
and Kostov counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Ryan thinking. Kostov scores with a jab to the head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kostov misses with a lunging right hand
and Ryan counters with a lovely straight right hand! A big left from Ryan misses. Kostov was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind. A punch lands to the side of Kostov 's head but he takes it in his stride. Kostov misses with an uppercut. Ryan is looking to counter with a shot to the body. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Ryan takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Pavel Kostov dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ryan throws an off balance right hand
and Kostov counters with a nice body shot. Pavel Kostov seems to be getting the better of the standup. Ryan misses with a jab to the body
and Kostov counters with a straight right hand. Ryan slips a jab from Kostov. Ryan swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Kostov in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off. Nice uppercut there from Kostov. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ryan misses with a jab to the body
and Kostov cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Kostov misses the shot to the body. Ryan swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ryan throws a lazy uppercut
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. Kostov throws a head kick that half lands.
Kostov misses with an uppercut. Ryan thinks about countering with a body kick. A good leg kick by Kostov. Kostov closes the distance and clinches.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kostov lands a left hand.
Kostov is leaning against Ryan and scores with a nice uppercut to the body. Kostov blocks an uppercut.
Ryan wants to break the clinch but can't.
Ryan lands on the inside with an uppercut. Kostov's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. I was talking to Ryan's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Ryan swings wildly with an uppercut but Kostov uses good head movement to avoid it. Kostov lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage. Nice body punch from Ryan - that landed with a thud.
Ryan lands a hook to the side of the head. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Ryan scores with a shoulder strike. Kostov avoids the elbow strike from Ryan, against the cage.
Ryan working some nice short punches in the clinch. Kostov takes an elbow to the forehead. Ryan pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Kostov has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Kostov waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Ryan. Ryan was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kostov punishes Ryan's body with a nice straight punch. Ryan stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Ryan slips under a jab. Kostov misses with an uppercut
and Ryan counters with a huge left! Kostov is in big trouble! He's backing up but Ryan isn't giving him chance to recover. Under a barage of punches the ref has to step in to save Kostov from any more damage. A dominating finish by Ryan!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Gord Ryan! Gord Ryan retains his middleweight title! A relieved looking Gord Ryan thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
