PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Satoshi Ekaku (ranked 545 p4p, 548 weight class) and Marcus Shakes (ranked 53 p4p, 54 weight class). Shakes is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by About the Money- T.I.. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Satoshi Ekaku!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marcus Shakes!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Percy O'Donnell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shakes throws a combination that misses
and Ekaku counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Ekaku lands with a slapping head kick.
Ekaku misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Ekaku avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Ekaku went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Ekaku throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Shakes has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Shakes takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Ekaku connects with a jab.
Shakes walks into a stiff left hand from Ekaku.
The fight stays on the outside here - Shakes looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ekaku throws an overhand right that lands on Shakes's shoulder, as Shakes tries to avoid the shot.

Shakes stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Shakes instigates a clinch.
Ekaku tries to break the clinch but Shakes is controlling the position.
I was talking to Ekaku's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Ekaku tries to pull guard but Shakes holds him up against the cage and eventually Ekaku drops back down to his feet.
Ekaku is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Shakes can do to turn this around?

Ekaku has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Shakes is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Ekaku.
