PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mabahong Tae (ranked 28 p4p, 63 weight class) and Presley Chai (ranked 5 p4p, 8 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mabahong Tae!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 11 - 0, fighting out of London, Presley Chai!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Colin Fray and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chai bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Tae's head.
Tae misses with a few strikes there.
Chai let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Chai blocks a jab.

Tae throws an overhand right that lands on Chai's shoulder, as Chai tries to avoid the shot.
Chai cracks Tae with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Tae takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
A slow jab from Chai misses its intended target.
Tae lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Chai moves out of range of the strikes.
Tae throws a poor cross that misses
and Chai counters with a nice uppercut.

Chai drops his shoulder and cracks Tae with a huge uppercut! Tae goes down! Can Chai finish him?

Tae is rocked!

It looks like Mabahong Tae has been cut.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Chai working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Chai got a little sloppy there for a moment and Tae has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Chai has managed to get both his arms back between Tae's legs - danger averted.
Chai postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Chai throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Tae works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chai connects with a couple of short punches.
Chai lands a couple of elbows.
Tae is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Chai wants to sweep but Tae has passed to side control!

Tae swings around for an armbar but Chai sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Tae's guard.

Chai makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Chai chips away with some ground and pound.
Chai throwing strikes but missing.
Chai cracks Tae with a solid left hand.

Tae working for a triangle but Chai defends it easily.
Chai stands up over Tae, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Tae is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Chai is aware though and is defending well.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Tae wants to sweep but no luck.

Tae looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Chai lands a couple of elbows.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tae is looking for a triangle here but Chai uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Chai scores with a couple of short elbows.
Tae looking for a sweep but Chai has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Chai connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Tae is looking to get to half guard.
Tae is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Sydney Top Team, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chai working the ground and pound effectively.
Oh Tae is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Chai looking to finish Tae with some ground and pound. This is bad for Tae!
Tae tries to lock up and control but Chai gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Tae seems to have got his legs back now.
Tae is in all sorts of trouble here.
Chai lands a heavy elbow.

Chai lands a heavy shot. That's hurt Tae! Chai sees the opportunity and turns up the heat - strike after strike land to the defenseless Tae and the ref dives in to save him! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Presley Chai!
Presley Chai is the new middleweight champion!
A relieved looking Presley Chai thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
