Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Abel Hug (ranked 722 p4p, 1230 weight class) and Tyres Widforss (ranked 65 p4p, 114 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 15 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Abel Hug! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 17 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tyres Widforss! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Stewart Dunkirk and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Widforss chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Hug can pounce on him.
Hug misses with a body shot.
A left lands for Hug. Hug scores with a leg kick.
Hug swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Widforss with the counter takedown but Hug avoids it easily. Widforss lands with an overhand left. A looping hook to the body misses from Hug. Widforss does a little dance to reset his feet. Hug has been working on his boxing with his coaches at New York Public Gym in the buildup to the fight. Sloppy strikes from Widforss. Those never looked like landing. Widforss moves forwards but Hug connects with a nice, crisp jab. Hug throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Widforss throws a shot from downtown. Hug moves away and avoids it. A jab from Widforss misses. Widforss throws an off balance right hand
enabling Hug to counter with a crisp jab. Hug lands with a cross. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Widforss decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Hug keeping control of the position. Hug is trying to get back to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Widforss looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Hug slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Widforss controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Widforss wants to control from the top but Hug keeps moving. Widforss drops back looking for a leg! Hug is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hug manages to kick Widforss off! Widforss jumps back into Hug's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hug bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Widforss's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hug got a little sloppy there for a moment and Widforss has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hug has managed to get both his arms back between Widforss's legs - danger averted. Hug wanted to stand there but Widforss had control of the position. Hug sitting in guard here, content to control. Hug continues to stall. Widforss looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Hug is looking to stand up but Widforss won't let him. Widforss had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hug defends it easily. Widforss looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Hug is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Widforss looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Hug showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Widforss working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hug doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hug manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hug controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Widforss is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Hug not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Widforss takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Widforss tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hug swivels and escapes. Hug lets loose with a powerful body kick. Widforss will feel that in the morning.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Some wild striking there from Hug.
Hug throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Widforss misses the shot to the body. Widforss uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Hug. Abel Hug is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Widforss tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Widforss throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Widforss throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Hug. Widforss checks a low kick from Hug. Hug pivots, looking for a leg kick but Widforss is out of range and Hug settles back down. Hug steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Widforss. Widforss throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Hug stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Widforss swings widly with a right hand
and Hug counters with a lovely straight right hand! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Widforss lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Hug at a distance.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Abel Hug dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Widforss moves away from the strike by Hug. Widforss cracks Hug with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Widforss misses with a few strikes there.
Hug throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Widforss misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Hug tries to score with a low kick but Widforss moves his leg out of the way. Hug walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Widforss avoids the body shot from Hug.

and Hug counters with a nice uppercut. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hug moves away from the strike by Widforss. Widforss tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Widforss walks forward, straight into a front kick from Hug. Widforss goes for a double leg but Hug avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Hug continues to drive forward. Widforss is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Hug.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hug slips a jab and a cross from Widforss.
Hug walks into a stiff left hand from Widforss. Hug lands with a thumping leg kick.
Nice takedown defense from Hug. No joy for Widforss on that attempt. Abel Hug has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tyres Widforss. Widforss takes a swing at Hug's ribcage but misses. Hug lands with a shot to the body. Hug feints and then cracks Widforss's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Widforss down. Widforss takes one to the side of the head.
Hug looks to throw the jab but Widforss is out of range. Widforss is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. The fighters circling - Hug throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Widforss misses with the combination.
Widforss misses with an uppercut. Hug saw that one coming. Hug walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Donk. Widforss catches Hug right on the button with a cross.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Widforss looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Hug throws a leg kick but Widforss sees it coming and checks it nicely. Hug connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Hug throws the kick towards the body but Widforss avoids it. Widforss ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Widforss throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Hug sees it coming and avoids it easily. Hug scores with a punch to the head. Hug is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Widforss can do to turn this around? Hug takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Widforss misses with a looping right. Widforss swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Hug ducks under a wild hook from Widforss. Widforss tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hug defends well and Widforss ends up having to push Hug into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Hug lands a head shot.

and Hug counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Nice straight punches there by Widforss. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Widforss. Hug looks to land a body kick but Widforss moved away. Widforss changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Widforss shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Hug is defending against the submission attempts here by Widforss.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Widforss is fighting to break Hug's control of his arms but Hug is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Widforss has gone for a leg lock! Hug slips out almost immediately though and dives into Widforss's guard.
Widforss is looking to cinch up a triangle. Hug throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Widforss's body to avoid the submission. Widforss has instead reached around Hug's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Widforss arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
