Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Takeda Shida (ranked 29 p4p, 114 weight class) and Dave Handerson (ranked 5 p4p, 20 weight class). Handerson is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by America - A Horse With No Name. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 21 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Takeda Shida! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 24 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dave Handerson! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Taro Takaoka and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight. Shida missing with a left hand there. Handerson was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Handerson slips a jab and a cross from Shida.
And Handerson tries to counter it with a takedown but Shida pushes his down on his head and steps out. Shida throws the kick towards the body but Handerson avoids it. Handerson tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Handerson takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shida fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Shida misses with a body shot.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Shida fakes the leg kick and cracks Handerson in the body. Shida throws a looping overhand right but Handerson ducks down to avoid it. Shida throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Shida darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Shida thows a body kick. Handerson tries to catch it but that hurt him. Shida swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Handerson counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Handerson missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Handerson thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Shida's head. Shida is trying to get back to full guard. Handerson not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Handerson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Handerson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Shida doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Handerson.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Shida tries to roll over but Handerson keeps him under control. Handerson slips a nice elbow through Shida's hands, connecting with Shida's forehead. Shida is trying is best to control the position here. Shida is looking for a sweep. Handerson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Handerson is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Handerson wants to pass the guard but Shida is defending well. Shida is staying active underneath Handerson, who seems content to just control the action from this position. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Handerson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Shida has hold of Handerson's hands but Handerson slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Handerson trying to mount his opponent but Shida defends it. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! Takeda Shida dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Takeda Shida seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Shida throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Shida connects with a right hand. Handerson shakes it off. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A big left from Shida misses. Handerson is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Shida stalks Handerson and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Handerson's face. Handerson staggers backwards, shaken.

Handerson tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Shida lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Shida looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Handerson staying out of range there. Handerson changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Shida throws the kick towards the body but Handerson avoids it. A punch lands to the side of Handerson 's head but he takes it in his stride. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Shida. Handerson changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Shida is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Handerson can do to turn this around? Shida misses the shot to the body. Handerson feints the counter takedown. Shida lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Handerson circles away quickly and effectively.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Shida fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Handerson manages to avoid it. Handerson tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. A head kick misses from Shida. Handerson drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Shida defends it well. Shida throws a jab when Handerson was well out of range. Shida pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Shida lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Takeda Shida is winning the standup battle so far. Handerson blocks a leg kick. Handerson with the counter takedown but Shida avoids it easily.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Shida throws a solid leg kick but Handerson takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Shida. Shida looks to score with a jab to the body but Handerson is just out of range. Handerson with the counter takedown but Shida avoids it easily. Handerson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Shida.
Handerson feints the counter takedown. Shida is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. Takeda Shida is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Shida jabs Handerson to the body, keeping him at a distance. The fighters circling - Shida throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Handerson changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Shida looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. A punch lands to the side of Handerson 's head but he takes it in his stride. Handerson avoids the body shot from Shida.

And that's the end of the fight! Takeda Shida showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Shida, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
