PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Porthos Knox (ranked 752 p4p, 864 weight class) and Jakob Rolf (ranked 98 p4p, 108 weight class). Knox comes to the cage accompanied by One Step Closer | Linkin Park. Rolf is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by AVGN Theme Song. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 27 - 4, fighting out of Amsterdam, Porthos Knox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jakob Rolf!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, William Peck and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Knox missing with a left hand there. Rolf was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
A decent looking cross lands there for Rolf.
A telegraphed right hand from Rolf misses the target.
An attempted straight right counter from Knox misses the target.
Knox misses with a two punch combination.
Knox throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Knox throws out a loose jab but Rolf uses good head movement to avoid it.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Rolf has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Knox lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Knox.

It looks like Jakob Rolf has been cut.

Rolf is looking for a kimura but Knox is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Rolf to get the leverage.

Knox definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Rolf is pressing down on Knox's thigh, looking to free his foot. Knox is holding on for now.

Rolf is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Knox is just riding it out for now. Rolf eventually gives up the hold.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rolf seems to be working for a kimura but Knox defends the submission attempt.

Rolf wants to lay and pray for a moment but Knox keeps working.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rolf wants to pass the guard but Knox is defending well.

It looked like Knox was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
The fighters circle momentarily. Knox darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Rolf uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Knox.
Rolf appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Knox leaves Rolf with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Porthos Knox has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jakob Rolf.

Rolf throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Knox is looking to counter punch.

Rolf throws a good cross that connects.

and Knox counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Rolf ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Knox moves away.
Knox throws a leg kick but Rolf sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Rolf closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Knox did well to prevent Rolf getting side control.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rolf wants to control the action but instead Knox gets a body lock and reverses into Rolf's guard! Nice work!

Knox wants to stand but Rolf has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Rolf has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Knox doesn't defend quickly enough and Rolf has managed to lock this one up! Can Knox escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Rolf on a fantastic submission victory.
