PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Samson Buddha (ranked 106 p4p, 280 weight class) and Vic Romano (ranked 18 p4p, 48 weight class). Romano has chosen MXC Most Extreme Challenge as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Samson Buddha!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vic Romano!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Paulsen Ambrosius and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Romano jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Buddha moves out of range of the strikes.
Buddha avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Romano missing with a left hand there. Buddha was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Buddha is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Buddha throws the left hand but Romano avoids the punch easily.
Buddha ducks under a wild hook from Romano.
Romano thows a left - swing and a miss!
Romano waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Buddha.
Buddha steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Romano.
Buddha cracks Romano with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buddha walks into a stiff left hand from Romano.

It looks like Samson Buddha has been cut.
Romano is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.
Romano misses with a right hand
and Buddha counters with a straight right hand.
Romano throws a predictable looking body shot
and Buddha counters with a two punch combo.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Romano smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Buddha feints a jab promting Romano to slip. Buddha then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Romano slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Romano misses with a body shot.
Buddha feinted there with a counter leg kick.

Buddha avoids the body shot from Romano.
Buddha has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Romano throws the left hand but Buddha avoids the punch easily.
Romano throws a one two combo.
Romano pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Romano missing with a left hand there. Buddha was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Romano might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Romano lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Buddha backs up against the cage.

and Buddha counters with a good low kick that Romano was not able to check.

It looked like Buddha was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Romano.
Buddha lands a jab to the nose.

Romano clinches.
Buddha scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Romano misses with a hook to the ribs.

Buddha wants to stall.
Romano fails to pull guard.
A short uppercut from Romano.
Buddha lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Romano swings wildly with an uppercut but Buddha uses good head movement to avoid it.
Buddha misses with a body punch.
Romano misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Buddha blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Buddha breaks the clinch.
Buddha's jab looks to have found its range, popping Romano under the eye.
Romano doesn't manage to clinch there - Buddha circles away.
Buddha fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Buddha wants to slow Romano down by chopping away at his legs.
Romano tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Buddha was well out of range. Poor timing from Romano.
Buddha uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Romano.
Buddha throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
A countering left hand to the body from Romano misses.

Buddha tests Romano's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Buddha throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Buddha explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Buddha swings for the body but Romano moves out of range.
Vic Romano is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Romano avoids a kick to the body.
A nice side step and Romano releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Buddha walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Romano fails in his attempt to clinch.
Buddha is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Romano misses the jab.
Buddha lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Buddha throws a looping overhand right but Romano ducks down to avoid it.
A nice leg kick lands there from Buddha.
Buddha bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Romano misses with a hook
and Buddha cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Romano doesn't manage to clinch there - Buddha circles away.
Buddha thumps Romano with a low kick.
Buddha connects with a good right hand that stumbles Romano. Romano circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Buddha scores with a head kick. Romano tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Buddha throws a leg kick but Romano sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Romano now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
A big left from Romano misses.
Buddha takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Buddha misses with a low kick as Romano jumps back.
Buddha catches Romano with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Buddha stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Romano lunges at Buddha with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Buddha's hand.

Romano moves into the clinch.
Buddha tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Romano jumps into guard, dragging Buddha to the mat.
Romano is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Romano keeps trying to improve his position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Romano takes the fight into the clinch.

Romano fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Buddha blocks the elbow strike.
Buddha blocks an uppercut.

Romano jumps guard and drags Buddha to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Buddha lands a couple of digs.
Buddha preventing the sweep.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Buddha wants to control from the top but Romano keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Buddha sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Romano's guard.
Romano has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Buddha is working away from the top position though.

Buddha has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Romano is trying to escape the mount.
Buddha is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Buddha is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Romano has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Romano!
Romano wants to control from the top but Buddha keeps moving.

Buddha is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Romano is aware though and is defending well.
Romano cracks Buddha with a solid left hand.
Buddha not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Buddha had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Romano defends it easily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Romano is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Buddha trying to keep a closed guard but Romano is proving a slippery customer.
Romano is looking to work some ground and pound but Buddha has wrist control.
Buddha will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Romano looking to improve position, pressing down on Buddha's thigh with his hand. Buddha seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Romano paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Romano's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Buddha picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Samson Buddha!
A relieved looking Samson Buddha thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
The defeated Vic Romano had this to say: 'DON'T. GET. ELIMINATEDDD!!!'.
