Tony Mendez"s Last Interview

Fighter profile of Tony Mendez by Mentor Guru Corleone

#1 it is a sad day today, as you go into possibly your last fight for Gamma and also your career, how does it feel to be finally retiring?

Tony: it definitely is sad, but i guess the time is right.. ::laughs:: actually judging by my record recently the time was right a while ago. but you know how it gets. its hard to accept that you cant do this anymore. i just hope i can put on one last good show for my fans who have supported me for so long.. i know i've been disappointing them lately

#2 you have fought some of the biggest names ever, including Trent Pope 2x, Charles Carlson 3x, Hendo Han 2x, Jack Hammer 2x, Chris Webster 2x, Cheez Itz and current p4p champion Anton Chigurgh. Which of these future hall of farmers would you say was your biggest challenge?

Tony: wow, those were all tough fights. i'd have to say pope.. when i earned that second title shot, i thought i could take him. i remember at the time i was doing pretty well avenging earlier losses.. but i just couldnt finish him off when i had

Thompson Strikes Again

Fighter profile of Ed Thompson by Kawika Kelly

I wanted to get a post fight interview with Ed Thompson, who recently defeated Jose Guerra at DPEF 19. But instead, he just wanted me to sit down and write down what he had to say. For the record, The opinions of Mr. Thompson does reflect on me, or my views in any way, shape, or form.

"You know I've done a lot of talking going into this fight, and everyone thought I was crazy, but do you think I really care what people say? I'm not one to listen to authority, I do what I want, when I want. I don't wear a white hat, and ride on horses. I'm not rih, and I'm not a snob, and I am damn proud of that. I put my heart on my sleeve, and it shows when I'm in the cage. It showed tonight, when I went in, and beat up Jose. I'll admit he did get a few takedowns on me, I'll give him credit. I thought taking me down is like Murphy MacManus admitting he is a transgender, it's never gonna happen, but it did. But in the end, Jose didn't get the job done. Everyone knew going into this fight that if I won, I was going to call Sliski Stiwout. So I won, then I called Stiwout. I know he was in the crowd tonight, so he can't say he

Bomb Squad knocked into retirement by Biggums

Editorial by Captain Spaulding

Bomb Squad knocked into retirement by Biggums

New York City, NY - "The Reckless one" Bomb Squad retired on Saturday, July 7th in New York City. Jacky Chan aka Le Goat called the surprise press conference just moments after Squad was annihilated by the ground and pound onslaught of Tyrone Biggums. It was Squad's third loss in a row, all by tko, and Biggums' fifth win in a row.

Squad seemed very torn by his decision, citing possible head trauma as the main reason to his retirement, but also showed a genuine disgust for the turn his career had taken. He spoke of no plans for his post-fight career. His manager, Chan said next to nothing has he sat with a humbled look as Squad lamented the waning moments of his career, which even after three straight losses, still ended at an impressive 20-5.

The fight was the Main Event at UPG 63: Artillery which took place at the Liberty Dome in New York City. The Main Event did not last long, just 4:34 in the first round was all Biggums needed to destroy not only the chin and will of Squad, but also his career. Biggums, the current Light Heavyweight Champion at UPG was not available for comment.

OFC 150: Ang vs Ivanov

Event Preview: OFC 150: Ang vs Ivanov
OFC: Ontario Fight Club
2012-07-28, Montreal, Hard Knocks - Montreal
Author:King Justus

Main Event: Rodney Ang v Aleksey Ivanov The main event of OFC 150 features a true Super-Fight between two OFC Champions. Current OFC Middleweight Champion Rodney Ang [20-8-0 (OFC: 11-4-0)] will be going to war with Current OFC Welterweight Champion Aleksey Ivanov [18-6-0 (OFC: 2-0-0)]. Rodney Ang comes in to this fight riding a 9-Fight win streak that includes 6 consecutive title defenses. Quite an impressive feat, but Ivanov will be Ang’s biggest test to date. Aleksey Ivanov comes in to this fight riding a 4-Fight win streak with his most recent being a 5 round war that won him the Welterweight title at OFC 143. Ang is an Excellent Boxer with raw power and finesse that truly makes him a feared striker with 15 (T)KO’s to his name. While Ivanov may not possess the same stand-up attributes, he more than makes up for it with his ground game execution as he is an ADCC Champion with 11 career submissions. Many fighters claim to be the best, but after this fight, we will truly know who is the best P4P Fighter in the OFC.

Co-Main Event: Former 2x OFC Heavyweight Champion Scott Gibson [14-8-0 (OFC: 13-6-0)] will be fighting the very dangerous Heavyweight Contender Miles Quaritch [16-7-0 (OFC: 3-1-0)]. This is Gibson’s first fight since losing the OFC Heavyweight title at OFC 144, so you just know he is itching to get back to the winning side of things and make another title run. As a World-Class Boxer, Gibson may be looking to keep the fight standing and go for an 8th career (T)KO. Quaritch carries a 3-Fight winning streak to the cage and is no slouch with his stand-up either, as he just so happens to be a World-Class MT Specialist with 11 (T)KO’s. What more can be said about this fight, other than…Don’t blink!

Organization: Cage Fights Australia (CFA)

As Sydney enters a week in which its weather is finally faring better than other states such as Qld with nonstop rain and the continued drudgery of a weather system that can’t get it straight we the fans and crowd gather to see a contest put on by a great organisation under pressure. As management waivers with the possibility that the fighters and managers just sometimes create a whining pressure that becomes very ho hum and not worth the effort, the mail went out for a person or persons to take over the reins and keep the ship sailing. It would be sad to see such a great match maker and organizational boss leave the helm and it would only be wished upon that if this unfortunate possibility became a reality that someone who had some similarity in true unbiased management would step in. However as we see the fighters get ready we pay tribute to Anderson Silva who overcame the mouth of Sonnen with a swift knee bringing about his downfall, we go WTF with Forrest as a great fighter again listen to the voice in his head saying “Run Forrest Run”, we see a unbelievable contender for Silva emerge as Munoz get crushed by Weidman as he now goes to 9-0, We wonder about the Olympics as it approaches and the unbeatable speed freak Usain Bolt beaten was beaten twice by Yohan Blake in the 100 and 200 qualifying events. Then lastly we say farewell and pay tribute to a fallen Soldier SAS Sergeant Blaine Diddams.
Yes the SAS base more of the unarmed combat training of the Krav Maga style, yet each of us that has trained will always know of a centre that has it its ranks ex-military, instructors that have seen combat and as a country we should always know that men such as Sergeant Diddams should be remembered as men that have a true warrior spirit and are the modern day gladiators and the only people that should ever be called Hero’s
With a minutes silence the Hyashi lounge fallen deadly silent and then with the lifting of the lights out comes the champion….

205 lbs. 3 x 5 Rounds Pence Apene (7-1) v Kangeroo Poo (6-4) 205 lbs. title
Meeting for their third fight in what can only be called a title fight that will surely see the champ extend his run and title hold. Poo has the great achievement of holding a Purple belt and yet falling at 43 submission attempts in a fight and on two meetings with the Champ has not landed a single strike, or completed any technique of any sort. If by some miracle he closes his eyes and lands some sort of Hail Mary shot in the dark it will be the most unlikely of victories the CFA has ever seen.
