The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice defenses there by Handerson. Handerson feinted with a counter takedown. Petric throws a jab when Handerson was well out of range. Petric cracks a nice hook into Handerson's ribs. Petric feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Handersons jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Petric throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Handerson steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Petric. Handerson scores with a jab to the body. Petric ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Handerson moves away. Handerson slips a straight right by Petric. Petric throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Handerson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Petric's guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Handerson is working Petric over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Handerson controls from within his opponent's guard. Handerson stands and throws Petric's legs to the side, diving into side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Handerson moves into full mount! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Handerson controlling the position easily from mount. Petric wants to hold on but Handerson pushes him away. Handerson lands a heavy elbow. Handerson tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Handerson cracks Petric with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Petric can do anything to dispel that myth. Handerson lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. It looks like Ante Petric has been cut.
