Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kodiyak Redd (ranked 293 p4p, 323 weight class) and Jerry Short (ranked 19 p4p, 21 weight class). Short comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Survivor - Eye Of The Tiger kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 16 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kodiyak Redd! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jerry Short! The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Paul Tew and James Atkins.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Short fails with a takedown attempt. Redd tries to bum rush Short with a series of wild strikes but Short uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Redd tries to sprawl but Short drives through with a takedown into half guard. Redd gets back to full guard.
Redd tries to land a sweep but no joy. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Short drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Redd manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Short has Redd in his guard. Short trying to control the position here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Redd pushing down on Short's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Still in half guard, Redd seems content to control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Short moves into full guard.
Our spies down at at Gold Samurai's Gym inform us that Short has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off? Redd trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Short looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Redd passes into half guard.
Redd passes the guard and advances to mount! Short is in all sorts of trouble here.
Short tries to lock up and control but Redd gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Short is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Short taking shots to the head. Short sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Short tries to roll over but Redd keeps him under control. Redd not doing much here.
Short looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Short is trying to stand.
Short makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Short with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Redd to score with a decent uppercut. This has been an exciting period of action! The crowd cheers as Redd lands an impressive looking overhand right. Short doesn't seem phased though. Redd looks to score with a jab to the body but Short is just out of range. Short shoots in for a takedown but Redd shows good takedown defense. Nice takedown defense from Redd. No joy for Short on that attempt. Kodiyak Redd has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jerry Short.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Short scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Redd is looking to reverse the position. Redd gets back to half guard. Redd works his way to full guard. Good work. Short looking to sit in guard and control but Redd gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Redd avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Short manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Redd manages to get himself to full guard.
Short trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Short pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Redd is keeping the position for now. Redd throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Short thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Short postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Redd is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Short, into his guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Short can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Redd controls the pace. Redd avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That was a close round but I would say that Kodiyak Redd will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Donk. Redd catches Short right on the button with a cross. Redd misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Short looks for a takedown but Redd sprawls well. Redd bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Short shoots for a double leg takedown but Redd sprawls well. He's pushed Short's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Redd connects with a looping right hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Short takes a jab right on the kisser.
Redd has taken the fight to the clinch.
Redd lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Short backwards. Short drops down looking for an ankle pick but Redd pulls his leg out and moves away.
Kodiyak Redd has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jerry Short.
That's one minute gone in the round. Short has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Redd. A left lands for Redd. Short changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Redd looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Redd is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Short off and has taken his back! Redd has good solid back control here. Redd tries to get the hooks in deep but Short pushed the leg off. Short wants to control his opponent's hands but Redd gets his hands free. Short is keeping busy.
Short can't escape the position.
This has been an exciting period of action! What can Short do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Redd is trying to control the position but Short postures up. Short throws a big elbow that misses. Short throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Redd works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Redd will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Redd looking to sweep here. No luck so far. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Redd holds on and takes a little breather. Short postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Redd is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Short, into his guard. Short tries to land a sweep but no joy. Short looking for a guillotine here but Redd defends easily.

Redd is stalling in the full guard. Jerry Short has got the better of the ground game so far. Redd sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Short's guard. Short is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Redd passes to full mount!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Redd looking to control but Short is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Redd is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Short is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Short regains half guard. Redd wants to pass to mount but Short is defending the position. Short is refusing to be controlled, as Redd sits in half guard. Short looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Redd trying to control from half guard but Short is working away. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Kodiyak Redd dominated that second round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round! Short shoots in for a double leg but Redd sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Redd shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Short as he jumps to the side. Short takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Redd scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. A nice leg kick from Redd, right into the meat of the thigh.
Short moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. It looks like Redd has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him. Short walks into a jab. Redd moves in looking to clinch but Short pushes him off. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Short darts in looking for a takedown but Redd gets double underhooks and turns Short into the cage. Redd scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Redd in side control, just content to control the action for now. Short tries to get back to half guard but can't.
That's one minute gone in the round. Redd is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Short is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Redd is one step ahead and moves to full mount! Redd scores with a couple of good head shots there.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Short tries to hold on but Redd pushes him away. Redd putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Redd prevents Short from getting the reversal. Redd fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Redd controlling the position easily from mount. Redd can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Short is looking to escape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Short tries to reverse the position but Redd maintains control. Redd lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Short wants to hold on but Redd pushes him away. Redd content just to control the position here. Short tries to hold on but Redd postures up. Short gets back to half guard. Redd keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Short is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Redd pulls his head out easily. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Redd seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Redd trying to control the pace. Short is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Redd scores with a couple of nice shots. Redd tries to pass to full mount but Short defends it. Short looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Redd in particular looking to stall. Redd seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Short for as long as he can get away with. Short looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Redd content to control rather than advance.
And that's the end of the fight! Kodiyak Redd showed his dominance in that final round. Well Redd has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
