Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Torhte Finlayson (ranked 16 p4p, 228 weight class) and Jerry Short (ranked 1 p4p, 11 weight class). Finlayson comes to the cage accompanied by Scotland the Brave, Black Bear. Short has chosen Survivor - Eye Of The Tiger as his entrance music. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 45 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Torhte Finlayson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jerry Short!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Hirohito Nitta and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Short fails to land the takedown.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Short has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Finlayson throws a good cross that connects.
Short shoots in for a takedown but Finlayson shows good takedown defense.
Finlayson was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Finlayson lands a nice shot to the body.
Finlayson connects with the punch.

It looks like Jerry Short has been cut.
Finlayson has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Short drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Short trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Short looking to sit in guard and control but Finlayson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Short throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Short escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Finlayson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Finlayson's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Finlayson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Finlayson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Short has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Finlayson has managed to get both his arms back between Short's legs - danger averted.

Short isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Finlayson stacks Short on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Finlayson!

Short is trying to control Finlayson's posture but Finlayson avoids it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Short tries to improve position but can't.
You can see the frustration on Short's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Finlayson happy to just control the position for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Short tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Finlayson remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Finlayson works to advance to full mount. Short defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Short tries to hold on but Finlayson pushes him away.
Short is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Finlayson is staying active.

Short is working to get back to half guard.
Short keeps trying to improve his position.
Short is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Short tries to reverse the position but Finlayson maintains control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Short sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Short wants to control but Finlayson is keeping busy.
Finlayson looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Short looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Short actively working from the bottom here.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Torhte Finlayson dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jerry Short's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Finlayson ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Finlayson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Short can do to turn this around?
Short misses with a takedown
and Finlayson counters with a stiff right hand.
Short shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Finlayson counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Short closes this distance looking for a takedown but Finlayson circles away.
Torhte Finlayson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jerry Short.
Finlayson lands with a right hand.

Short is rocked!
Finlayson lands with a massive overhand right! Stick a fork in Short - he's out cold! Ermm... I think I just mixed my metaphors but yeah... That was a nice KO! Big win for Finlayson!
