Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Seamus O Brien (ranked 576 p4p, 537 weight class) and Thiago Cortes (ranked 70 p4p, 69 weight class). O Brien comes into the arena with Pantera - The Great Southern Trendkill blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Thiago Cortes!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
O Brien swings away with a body shot that misses
enabling Cortes to counter with a crisp jab.
O Brien throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Cortes takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Cortes tries to move into range but O Brien moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
O Brien throws a lazy right hand but Cortes sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Cortes throws out a counter right but O Brien avoids it with no problem.

O Brien throws a hook to the side of Cortes's head but Cortes sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Cortes appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

It seemed like Cortes was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Cortes has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Cortes unleashes a big counter combination but O Brien bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Cortes seems to have recovered his senses.
O Brien throws a hook to the side of Cortes's head but Cortes sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Cortes swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Seamus O Brien seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cortes bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

We've been told by O Brien's head coaches at The House Of Pain that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
O Brien is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Cortes moves away from the strike by O Brien.
It seemed like Cortes was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

O Brien throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Cortes ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
O Brien throws a body kick, spinning off balance
letting Cortes counter with a right hand.
O Brien looks to land a right hand but Cortes moved out of range.
Cortes shapes to counter with a head kick.
Cortes takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
O Brien throws a poor cross that misses
and Cortes counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
O Brien misses with an uppercut. Cortes saw that one coming.
A little jabbing left from Cortes on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
O Brien looks to throw the jab but Cortes is out of range.
Cortes throws a big counter head kick but O Brien avoids it with no problem.

O Brien throws a hook but Cortes blocks it.
A little jabbing left from Cortes on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
O Brien is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Cortes's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.
A big right from O Brien misses.
Cortes now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
O Brien throws a lazy right hand but Cortes sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
O Brien misses with a low kick.
Cortes unleashes a big counter combination but O Brien bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
O Brien misses with a double jab.
A countering left hand to the body from Cortes misses.

O Brien lands a left and a right that send Cortes crashing to the mat, dazed. O Brien thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cortes steps to the side to avoid the strikes from O Brien.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

and Cortes counters with a nice body shot.
O Brien throws a leg kick
and Cortes counters with a body kick that stops O Brien in his tracks momentarily.
An inside leg kick lands from O Brien.
A jab from O Brien misses.
Cortes shapes to counter with a head kick.

O Brien sends Cortes crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! O Brien is motioning to the referee to let Cortes up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!
O Brien is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Cortes can do to turn this around?
O Brien misses with a hook to the body
and Cortes counters with a nice body kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
O Brien throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Cortes counters with a thumping low kick.
O Brien misses with a straight left.
A nice side step and Cortes releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

O Brien feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Cortes sprawling to the canvas! Cortes rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can O Brien finish him?!
O Brien throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Cortes sees it coming and avoids it easily.
O Brien lands a big head kick that sends Cortes to the canvas! O Brien follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!

After the fight, Seamus O Brien was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
