Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Smith (ranked 207 p4p, 871 weight class) and Elo Mnusk (ranked 28 p4p, 114 weight class). Smith comes to the cage accompanied by Rush - Subdivisions. Mnusk is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Dead or alive Bon Jovi. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mike Smith! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 15 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Elo Mnusk! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Elvis Blanc and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smith avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Mnusk. Smith swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. We've been hearing reports that Smith has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Mnusk looks for a takedown but Smith sprawls well. Smith attempts a counter takedown but Mnusk avoids it well and moves away. Mnusk shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Smith pinned against the cage. Smith gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Smith swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect. Mnusk has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight. Mike Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Elo Mnusk. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mnusk throws a right hand that Smith ducks under and follows up with a left that Smith also avoids with ease. Mnusk tries for a takedown but Smith circles away easily and Smith makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mnusk doesn't succeed with the takedown and Smith counters with a stiff right hand. Mnusk misses with a takedown attempt - Smith sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Smith stuffs the takedown attempt from Mnusk. Mnusk gets slowly back to his feet. Smith feinted with a counter takedown. Mnusk misses with a double jab
and Smith counters with a stiff right hand. Danga de danga de dang - Mnusk scores with a four punch combination!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mnusk looks to score with a jab to the body but Smith is just out of range. Mnusk throws a head kick that misses. Mnusk throws a lazy head kick and Smith counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Smith cracks Mnusk with a solid left hand. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Smith is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Smith working some strikes from top position. Smith landing with the ground and pound. Smith landing some decent shots from guard. Smith connects with a couple of short punches.

He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Mnusk has momentary wrist control but Smith slips an elbow through the middle. Smith sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Mnusk's guard. Smith is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mnusk defends it well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Smith takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Mnusk wants to get back to full guard but Smith has passed into side control. Smith grinds an elbow into Mnusk's temple. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mnusk is trying to control Smith's posture but Smith avoids it. Smith working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Smith in side control lands a decent elbow. Smith scoring with punches from side control. Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Smith thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Smith scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Mnusk to see if he's OK. Mnusk is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Smith scoring with punches from side control. Smith is trying to get an arm triangle but Mnusk is defending well. Smith works to advance to full mount. Mnusk defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Smith is in the full mount, landing strikes. Mnusk tries to lock up and control but Smith gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Mnusk throwing hammer fists to the chest of Smith. What's that going to do exactly? Mnusk tries to hold on but Smith pushes him away. Mnusk is trying to escape the mount.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Smith looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Mnusk tries to hold on but Smith postures up. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Smith raining down shots from the mount! The referee warns Mnusk that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Smith jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Mnusk manages to avoid the submission attempt. Mnusk tries to improve position but can't.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Smith lands a nice forearm strike. Smith scores with a couple of short elbows. Smith is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mnusk has escaped the position, nice work there. Mnusk is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Smith is controlling him well. Mnusk really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Smith lands a decent elbow from side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mnusk wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Smith lands some shots froms side control. Smith scoring with punches from side control. Smith lands a nice forearm strike. Smith looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
That's eight minutes gone in the round. Smith tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Smith has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Mnusk is looking to reverse the position. Mnusk takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Smith scoring with punches and elbows. Smith is looking to take a break and control but Mnusk is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Smith lands an elbow. Smith cracks Mnusk with a big elbow.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Mnusk is looking to regain half guard here but Smith keeps moving and retains side control. Smith is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Mnusk's shoulder. That is not cool. Check out the look on Smith's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mnusk can do anything to dispel that myth. Smith lands a few punches from side control. Smith lands a nice forearm strike. Mnusk is not content to let Smith control the position. Smith passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Mnusk! Smith looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Mnusk tries to hold on but Smith pushes him away. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Mike Smith dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Mnusk fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Mnusk tries to clinch but Smith moves out of range. Mnusk is looking to clinch. Smith is looking to counter punch. A low kick from Mnusk misses and Smith counters with a takedown into side control. Mnusk takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Smith is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Mnusk can do to turn this around? Mnusk is trying to get back to his feet. Smith landing strikes. Smith scoring with punches and elbows. Smith is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mnusk knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Smith landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.

Smith in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Mnusk gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there! Smith is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Mnusk is forced to tap! Great finish!
