Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Cathal Doherty (ranked 334 p4p, 311 weight class) and Jack Cango (ranked 41 p4p, 39 weight class). Doherty comes to the cage accompanied by Jeremy- Pearl Jam. Cango comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Into Action by Tim Armstrong kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 22 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cathal Doherty! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 15 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Jack Cango! The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cango takes a body punch but keeps moving. Cango takes the fight into the clinch. Doherty escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Cango misses with a hook. Doherty pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Doherty cracks Cango with a right hand to the side of the head. Cango lands a jab. Doherty throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Doherty is looking to land body kicks. Cango was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind. Doherty throws the left hand but Cango avoids the punch easily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cango misses with a head kick.
Doherty connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Doherty swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Cango rushes Doherty and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Doherty takes a shot to the head. Doherty is trying to push Cango away but Cango has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Doherty breaks the clinch.
Doherty just misses with a punch to the body.
Cango blocks a head kick by Doherty.
Cango steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect. Doherty throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Doherty missing with a left hand there. Cango was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. A telegraphed right hand from Cango misses the target. Doherty throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Doherty pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Cango is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Doherty. Doherty throws a lazy right hand but Cango sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Cango follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land. Left hook, right uppercut from Cango. Doherty throws a low kick but Cango avoids it. Doherty looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cango looks to land a left hand but Doherty moved out of range nicely. Cango doesn't manage to clinch there - Doherty circles away.
Cathal Doherty seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Doherty misses with a leg kick and Cango makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Doherty lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Cango slips under a jab. Doherty tries a low kick but Cango avoids it. A decent looking cross lands there for Doherty. Doherty uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Cango. Doherty just misses with a punch to the body.
Doherty throws a nice inside leg kick. Cango chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Doherty can pounce on him.
Doherty swings widly with a right hand
and Cango connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Cango chopping away at his opponent's legs.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Doherty scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Doherty lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Cango is rocked! Cango lands a two punch combo.
Cango is still on wobbly legs! Can Doherty finish him?
It looks like Cathal Doherty has been cut. Doherty looks to throw the jab but Cango is out of range. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Cango! But no joy. Cango seems to have recovered his senses. That kick from Cango tenderised Doherty's leg. Doherty is trying to keep his angry face on. Cango misses with a wild body shot. Doherty takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Doherty looks to score with a jab to the body but Cango is just out of range. Cango looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Doherty throws a leg kick which misses Cango's front leg but catches the back leg as Cango tries to avoid it. Cango moves forwards but Doherty connects with a nice, crisp jab. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Doherty has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Doherty there as he acknowledges the shot. Doherty misses with an attempted mid kick.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Doherty takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Cango takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Cango displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Doherty throws out the jab. Cango misses with a shot to the body and Doherty counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. A telegraphed right hand from Doherty misses the target. The fighters circle, before Cango throws a beautiful high kick that crashes into Doherty's neck, sending him stumbling to the floor! Cango lands more strikes and forces a referee stoppage! That one ended in an instant!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Kick & Punches). Jack Cango! An out of breath Jack Cango thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
