PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Hoodoo Brown (ranked 35 p4p, 53 weight class) and Ulysses Battleby (ranked 2 p4p, 7 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 17 - 3 - 1, fighting out of New York, Hoodoo Brown! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 22 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ulysses Battleby! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Tiny Johnson and Daniel Franklin.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Brown shoots and misses and Brown takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Brown fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Brown looks for a takedown but Battleby sprawls well. Battleby let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hoodoo Brown. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Brown drives through with a takedown into Battleby's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Battleby wants to stand up but Brown is controlling him. Brown stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Battleby swivels though and keeps the full guard. We've been hearing that Brown has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Battleby lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
 The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Battleby content to stall in guard here. Brown keeping moving, preventing Battleby from controlling successfully. Brown bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Battleby's guard.
Battleby is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Brown stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Battleby swivels though and keeps the full guard.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Brown stands and throws Battleby's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Brown tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Brown has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
 That's three minutes gone in the round.
Battleby is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Brown's leg. Oh but that's left an opportunity for Brown! He's got an arm triangle... it looks tight! He's rotating and Battleby has tapped! This one is allllll over!
