The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Choo Oi shoots for a double leg takedown but Aoiki sprawls well. He's pushed Choo Oi's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Aoiki looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Aoiki shoots in looking for a takedown. Choo Oi tries to sprawl out of it but Aoiki keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Choo Oi manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Aoiki has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Choo Oi is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Choo Oi has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ken Aoiki. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ryan doesn't manage to clinch there - Hofmann circles away.
Ryan tries to clinch but Hofmann is having none of it.
Ryan throws a lazy right hand but Hofmann sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Ryan tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hofmann sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ryan somewhat.

Ryan shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hofmann's guard.
We've been hearing that Ryan has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Hofmann is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ryan is aware though and is defending well.
