Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ryu Inhanamoto!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Douglas Sampson!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Inhanamoto ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Sampson moves away.
Sampson appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
Sampson slips a straight right by Inhanamoto.
Inhanamoto misses with a hook.
A jab from Inhanamoto finds it's way through Sampson's defenses.
Sampson lands a leg kick that knocks Inhanamoto off balance momentarily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Good standup being displayed there by Sampson as he connects with a hook.

It looks like Ryu Inhanamoto has been cut.
Sampson avoids the body shot from Inhanamoto.
Inhanamoto throws a quick inside leg kick.

Sampson throws a body kick, spinning off balance
letting Inhanamoto counter with a right hand.
Inhanamoto scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Sampson throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Inhanamoto counters with a nice low kick that buckles Sampson's knee momentarily.
Sampson moves in looking to clinch but Inhanamoto pushes him off.
An attempted straight right counter from Inhanamoto misses the target.
Inhanamoto scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Sampson doesn't seem bothered though.
Sampson throws out a loose jab but Inhanamoto uses good head movement to avoid it.

Sampson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Inhanamoto.
Sampson is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Inhanamoto with a body shot.
Sampson steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Inhanamoto.
Inhanamoto scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Nice defenses there by Inhanamoto.
Inhanamoto throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Sampson doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
A jab from Sampson misses.
Sampson thuds his right hand into Inhanamoto's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Inhanamoto ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
A slow jab from Sampson misses its intended target.
It looked like Inhanamoto was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Inhanamoto misses with a combination
and Sampson cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Sampson fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Inhanamoto looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Inhanamoto swings widly with a right hand
and Sampson counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Inhanamoto rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Sampson counters with a nice uppercut.

Ryu Inhanamoto's cut is getting worse.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sampson steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Inhanamoto.

Sampson cracks Inhanamoto with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Sampson has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Inhanamoto to stand back up!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sampson is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Inhanamoto misses with an uppercut
and Sampson counters with a big right hand! Oh Inhanamoto is in trouble here! Sampson follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Douglas Sampson!
Douglas Sampson is the new heavyweight champion!
After winning the bout, Douglas Sampson thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
